If you’re looking for help on wearing that so hard to do naturally wavy hair style that looks like it should be easy, we’ve got you covered. Here we will go over how to achieve this spring hair trend that gives you a hair style without having to worry about the rain or humidity that spring tends to bring.

Real talk time, ladies.  Spring is in the air, and frizz is in the hair.

Sure, most of us love the smell of flowers, trees, and grass; everything lightens and brightens up!  Sadly, along with nature’s beauty comes April Showers!  Ugh, and ain’t nobody got time for that! Especially for girls who deal with curls and frizz!  We spend what feels like forever smoothing out our hair – which, let’s face it, never really gets smooth – only to walk outside and *POOF.* We get to wherever we need to go, do a hair and lipstick check, only to find Mufasa staring back at us!  The struggle is real, y’all. Well, my beautiful curly-haired gals and pals, let me share a little secret with you: STOP SMOOTHING YOUR HAIR!

Dare I wear my hair curly, we ask ourselves?

That’s a double-dog-dare! Not only will you save time and the hassle of sore arms from round brushing, you will also learn to embrace that beautiful bouncy, curly mane.  I’m here to share my step-by-step styling secrets when it comes to beautiful, natural curly hair.

It all begins with the suds.  Make sure to use an anti-frizz, hydrating, or curl- enhancing shampoo and conditioner.  My personal favorite is the Arrojo American WAVE ReHab Shampoo and Submerge Conditioner. These products are filled with Lemon Bark, which vitalizes Vitamin E and provides perfect moisture balance and Sweet Almond Oil to make hair shiny and luscious.

“Time to make waves and curls cascade with confidence

-Rosa Marrufo, Dallas Hair Stylist

My super curly-haired peeps out there, you should get a wide tooth comb and keep it in your shower to comb out your hair.  I don’t have super curly hair, but I still definitely do this.  It’s not totally necessary but it helps!  How, you ask? You wrap untangled, coiled curls into a towel which helps set the curl in, avoiding stretching out the curl.   You should not keep your hair wrapped in a towel for more than 3-5 minutes, because hair starts to dry quickly, and the frizz will begin to reveal its ugly face.

Once you unwrap your hair, tilt your head to each side, shaking it in between your fingers, lifting your hair off your scalp. This also helps avoid hair falling flat and sticking to the scalp.  Next, grab pieces of hair from around your face and randomly throughout your hair, wrap them around your finger (working with your natural curl), and let them go.  Once you have created these finger curls throughout your hair, SCRUNCH like your life/hair depends on it.

That’s it! LOL, J/K!  Our hair should still be pretty wet right now, not dripping wet, but more wet than dry.  Here is where we are going to apply our products and use our tools.  Start with products – again my personal favorite these days is the American WAVE line, their Structure Styling Cream cocktailed with Elixir Defrizzing Gel and for that instant oomph you want at the end, you will need to get your hands on Glint Texture & Shine Spray.  For your tools you will need a blow dryer, a diffuser (yes you need it) and a 1” curling iron.

Boom – we have them all?  Perfect, take your Structure and Elixir and mix them together (I would start off with a nickel size amount of each and mix up more if needed.  You want to avoid putting all your product in one spot, so work with a little product at a time, one a section at a time.  I like to tilt my head from side to side, then back, then flip my head over and scrunch away!

Literally.  Step away from your hair, do your makeup, get your outfit ready, shoot, get your kids ready.  Allow your hair to air dry for about 10 minutes (if you have the time), come back, grab your dryer and diffuse your hair in the same manner that you scrunched in your product.  Now I’m just going to keep it real, your hair may not be 100% dry, nor do you really want it to be.  Dryness takes out moisture which then causes static and frizz, so don’t over dry it.

Once you’ve dried it about 85-90%, flip your hair back over and scrunch away to allow the bounciness to come through.  Set your part in, grab your curling iron and work on hair that needs finessing by wrapping it around the curling iron, using it as a wand.  I recommend working with the natural direction of the curl.  Glint it up to add that last tousled look to a beautiful curly mane. Have yourself a fabulous hair day!

See – it’s not so hard! It may sound complicated, but the reality is you must set yourself and your curls up for success; otherwise, you will be all frizzed out and have the hair to match.

Dallas Blonde Hair Salon

Working behind the chair as a stylist, I’ve learned many people do not know how to care for their blonde hair. In this blog I’m going to go over all the details on how to take care of your locks so that you have long lasting, beautiful blonde hair.

Also let me know if you have any other ideas, I’d love to see them! If you are looking for a blonde specialist in Dallas, I would love opportunity to make your hair dreams come true!

Haircare & Products

Let’s be honest, lightening your hair means you need to take care of it. Here are my go to product recommendations to keep your color looking better, but also maintaining the best health of your hair.

Purple Shampoo & Conditioner

Every blonde needs purple shampoo/conditioner. Using the right purple shampoo will keep your blonde vibrant and from turning yellow. However, overdoing it can either dull your blonde or turn it purple.

A good rule to follow would be to use it every other time you shampoo. My go to purple shampoo and conditioner is the Artego Shiny Silver shampoo and Blueberry mask. It refreshes blonde hair to the perfect color! Don’t worry, it’s not too purple or ashy!

Color Safe & Moisturizing Shampoo

A lot of shampoos still have sulfates and other things that can strip your color and keep it from lasting as long. It’s so so important to invest in your hair and use quality products for your own specific needs. Some blondes need moisture, some need repair to help strengthen your hair.

My best advice is to ask your stylist to recommend a sulfate free shampoo that suits your personal haircare needs. One of my favorites for blondes is the Alterna Caviar Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner. It’s great!

The Perfect Brush: Framar Detangling Brush

It’s so important to use a soft bristle brush no matter the color of your hair. However, the Framar Detangling brush has flexible bristles that don’t tug on your hair which in turn prevents breakage. I personally don’t use any other brush!

Stylist tip: is to apply a deep conditioning treatment and brush it through using your wet brush. Makes for soft, tangle free hair.

Pool Time

Pools typically have harsh chemicals that can dry your hair out and turn it green. To prevent both of those happening, apply a leave in conditioner on dry hair to protect it or simply secure your hair in a loose braid or top knot. My go to product cocktail for the pool is the Alterna Caviar Bond Repair leave in conditioner paired with the Anti Frizz Nourishing oil.

Styling Without Damage

When styling it’s so important to use a heat protectant and low heat. Remember: you’re blonde now, so you have to take care of your hair.

A good temperature to use your hot tools, like your flat iron or curling iron/wand, is 300-350 degrees. Any higher and you’re basically cooking your hair.

Another tip is to find a heat protectant that covers more than the temperature of heat you will be using. A really great one with everything I mentioned is the Alterna Caviar Bond Repair heat protectant.

Think of it like this: you wouldn’t grab a hot pan out of the stove without a glove. A heat protectant is a layer of protection on your strands when you use a hot blow dryer, flat iron, curling iron or wand.

Consistency is key!

It’s so important to be consistent with a stylist to work towards a hair goal. Good hair doesn’t happen in one appointment, it takes time and a plan.

Trying to achieve a major transformation in one appointment is unrealistic, and it really can damage your hair. Staying consistent with one stylist will help you reach your hair goals.

Have Realistic Expectations

Let‘s talk about changing your hair and the expectations to have when doing so:

You can most definitely make changes, however going from blonde to brown and back to blonde every other appointment is damaging to your hair.

Think of it like this: you only have one head of hair, and going back and forth between colors affects the integrity of your hair. When it comes to expectations of being blonde you have to be okay with the phases of doing so.

Big hair changes happen over time and multiple appointments. There will definitely experience warm phases from dark brunette to a pale light blonde. Patience, sticking to a stylist, and trusting the process is the key!

Truth be told, not all of us are born with full, thick hair. Thin-haired ladies know that creating the perfect ponytail is no easy feat. If you have one of those days when no product seems to work in pumping up your hair volume, a ponytail hair extension is your next best bet. Ponytail hair extensions are one of the easiest ways to add fullness and length to fine or thin ponytails. They come in a variety of lengths and thickness to suit your current hair length and texture.

Ponytail hair extensions are great for a girl on the go, looking for a quick style accessory that dramatically adds to your ponytail.

We don’t recommend wearing a ponytail hair extensions every day, since that is not how they were designed.  Ponytail extensions are designed for on-the-go easy styles.  They are great for special occasions, or the occasional night out.

Ponytail extensions come in synthetic and human hair options.  They use a comb clip that hooks onto your own ponytail, and a few bobby pins for extra security.

How to Wear

Step 1: Prep

Prep your hair with volumizing products so your hair isn’t silky smooth before you start.  Dry shampoo, Texturizing spray, or hair powders are a great way to add grip and texture to your hair for extra volume.  It also helps ensure the clip on your ponytail extension stays secure into your own hair.

Step 2: Ponytail

Use a strong elastic band and tightly secure your hair into a ponytail in your desired placement.

Step 3: Add Hair Extensions

Hook the metal comb on the base of your ponytail extension directly into the elastic band of your ponytail.  Then, wrap hair around the base of your ponytail to secure it to your hair and hide any wefting at the base.

Our newest obsession are the Halo Couture Hair extensions in Dallas!  They are a temporary extensions you take in and take out whenever you want to amp up your style.  With the halo couture, there are no clips and the whole system is fool-proof, and very simple for anyone looking for extra fullness or length.

How it works

As you can see from the pictures, the Halo Couture Extensions sit on top of your head just like a halo. The miracle wire sits about one to three inches behind your hairline/bangs and the back of the hair extensions slides down the back of your head to your nape. After you gently pull your hair up from underneath the halo to cover the piece, the weight of your hair lying on top of the halo will keep it secure and disguise it within your style.

Wearing them is unbelievably comfortable, and the potential for damage is as close to zero as possible since there are no clips to tug on your hair. It comes in several lengths so you can either wear it to fill in your hair and add volume, or you can get the longer lengths to add length. If you are looking to add extreme length, wearing multiple pieces and stacking them is definitely an option.

Quality & Care

The Halo Couture hair extensions are 100% remy human hair, meaning they are of the best quality. You can use flat irons or curling irons to style the halo hair just like your own so the system always looks incredibly believable.

Caring for these extensions are incredibly simple. They will need to be shampoo and conditioned on an as needed basis. Proper hair extension care products are recommended to take care of the quality of hair as is the case with all hair extensions.

Original Halo Couture

Halo Couture Lengths

Lengths Available: 12″, 16″ 20″ 24″

Hair Density/Weight: 70-120 grams of hair

Stylist Tip: The Original Halo is best if you are looking to fill in your style, and not add any length. This halo has less hair than the Layered Halo Couture, so it is ideal for adding extra thickness to your hair.  If you are looking to add length to your style, we suggest the layered halo couture option.

Layered Halo Couture

View More: http://butchowensphotography.pass.us/halocouture

Lengths Available: 14″, 18″ 22″

Hair Density/Weight: 100-165 grams of hair

Stylist Tip: The Layered Halo is best if you are looking to add length to your style.  Each length has more hair when compared with an original halo.  It also comes lightly layered, which means minimal cutting is required, resulting in your having more hair to fill in the extra length you are adding to your style

What are they?

Tape Hair Extensions in Dallas are one of the most popular types of hair extensions our clients love!  Tape Hair Extensions are one of the easiest, most comfortable methods available. These human, remy hair extensions are a fantastic, non-damaging, and quick way to add volume,  and length.  Our Skinny Tape Hair Extensions are the thinnest base available, and are only offered at Bigger Better Hair in Dallas, TX.

Our Skinny Tape hair extensions in Dallas are thin panels of hair on a discreet weft, and use hypoallergenic surgical grade tape on a polyurethane base.  They come in bundles of 14 wefts, which make 7 complete extensions.  We offer 5 services for every extension method we offer at Bigger Better Hair.  Which service you need depends on the look you want to achieve.

Our Skinny Tape Services

Fill In Service (7 panels)

With only 7 panels, this system is rarely used. We recommend this service for someone who experienced a bad haircut, or has a hard time filling in the hair around their face.

Volume Service (14 panels)

This is one of the most popular systems. With 14 panels you see a significant addition of volume in your hair.  If length is added with this service, the ends will be very fine and tapered.

Length & Volume (21 panels)

This is our other most popular service. 21 panels of our skinny tape extensions are when you start to really transform your hair and add length and volume.  This can offer a natural, but dramatic change in your length.

XL Length & Volume Treatment (28 panels)

Anything is possible with 28 panels of our skinny tape extensions.  This is when we get into #instagram worth hair.  This amount of hair allows you to have a perfectly blended and beautifully full style.

XXL Length & Volume Treatment (35 panels)

If you are looking for #biggerbetterhair this is the service.  This is for the girl who wants an extremely full, beautiful, long, and dense head of hair.

How Long Do They Last?

Most clients wear they same hair for 6 months, with regular re-applications.  Once applied, the extensions are good for daily usage for 6-8 weeks.  After six to eight weeks (which usually falls within a time frame to refresh hair color) the extensions are removed. New tape is applied while the color processes, and the same hair is reapplied.  You re-use the same hair extensions multiple times until the hair needs replacing.

Why Choose Skinny Tape?

Our Skinny tape hair extensions in Dallas are the bomb dot com. They are a fantastic way to amp up your hair style in a cost effective way. If you have a fine, or thin hair texture they are the absolute best method of hair extensions for you. The base is a very flat panel that is hardly noticed, extremely discreet, and are the most comfortable you can possibly wear.  This method of extensions comes with the least amount of drawbacks compared to any other type of extensions.  Last but not least, we are the only Dallas Hair Extensions Salon who carries Skinny Tape Extensions as they have been developed by our stylists, tested on our clients who have worn extensions for years.
