How does it work?

A Hairskeen System is installed to your own head using very strong Medical Grade Tape or is bonded to your head with a strong adhesive.  Half of our guests prefer to have it installed using tape, and the other half prefer bonding the system to their scalp.  Either way, the system stays secure for 3-4 weeks, at which point needs to be removed and re-installed.

Both adhesives, tape or bonding, actually use your very short hairs and your skin as a bonding point to anchor the system to your head.  There is absolutely no pain and it is very comfortable once installed.  In fact, most of our guests are completely shocked at how durable and strong the system is adhered to your head.   It truly becomes a part of you, not just in the way it looks but also feels when wearing.

After 3-4 weeks the system needs to be removed and re-installed to keep the attachment method (tape or bond) fresh, and to keep the length of any of your hairs underneath trimmed short.  See below for a before and after showing a client before, and after wearing a Hairskeen system installed with one of our Men’s Hair Replacement Specialists at Bigger Better Hair.

How can I talk with a stylist about this?

Our stylists at Bigger Better Hair were trained and certified in NYC by Hairskeen and have been perfecting their application techniques in a variety of scenarios.  Before proceeding with an install, our stylists need to meet with you to discuss the options that would best suit your needs.

They will also go over all of your maintenance, as well as take some measurements of your head prior to installation.  From there, you can decide if moving forward is right for you.  Once you order the hair, we will schedule your first installation, which includes a blending haircut to blend the system into your own hair for a natural cut.

What is the cost?

There are a lot of variables and different timelines between hair costs, installation services, and maintenance appointments.  Here is a general timeline with pricing to help set your expectations of pricing to make sure this can fit into your lifestyle:

1st appointment: Consultation  $0

This is the most important step to starting you off with realistic expectations to start your next hair chapter.  Our stylists will explain the systems and show you which would work best for you and your lifestyle.  From there, if you choose to proceed you will need to purchase your system, at which point we will schedule your first installation.

Hairskeen Systems range from $500-$550+tax depending on which method you choose: the “Skin” or “Mono” base options.  Both are amazing and offer the same end result, however they offer different pro’s and con’s.  In your consultation, our stylists will explain each and help guide you to the option that would best suit your lifestyle and circumstances.

 

2nd Appointment: First Installation + Blending Haircut

This is where the magic begins!  At this point, your stylist will install your new hairskeen system, and perform a blending haircut to seamlessly blend your natural hair into your system.   Depending on which method of installation you and your stylist choose, the costs are as follows:

New Installation + Blending Cut: $363-456

Pricing depends on the stylist you book with, and includes a custom mold and fitting of your system + the installation of your new system + a haircut to blend into your hair. 

 

3rd Appiointment: Removal & Re-installation

At this point, you will need the system removed & re-installed.  This is exactly what your stylist will do: remove the system, and re-install it.

If you are needing a haircut on the sides of your hair, you will need to let us know so we can add that to your services.  The Hairskeen re-application service only allocates enough time for the Hairskeen system maintenance, and a haircut will require additional time.

You will repeat this service over and over until it is time to start fresh with a new Hairskeen System

Re-Application for hair systems: $175-$215

Clipper or Scissor Cut (Optional, for your natural hair) : $38-$72

System Lifespan

Most clients wear the same system and have it re-installed every 3-4 weeks for 3-6 months depending on how well you take care of it in between visits, and the overall cap construction you choose.

The Hairskeen “Skin” System is the most realistic base that looks almost identical to a scalp with natural hair growing from it, however it is more fragile and has a shorter life span.  This method can only be bonded and can not be installed using tape.  While the maintenance for both is the same: every 3-4 weeks, this means the system will need to be replaced more frequently, around every 2-3 months.

The Hairskeen “Mono” System provides a sturdier base that can last a bit longer than the “Skin” system, and can be installed using the bonding method or using hair extension tape.  This system is maintained the same: every 3-4 weeks, and can last up to 6 months with good maintenance in between salon visits.

 

How to Proceed or Schedule

If you are interested, or have additional questions the first step is to move forward with a consultation with one of our Dallas Men’s Hair Replacement Specialists.  Consultations are complimentary, and usually take 20-30 minutes.  Our men’s hair replacement specialists will show you the two different bases, and fill you in on which they think would best suit your needs.  Should you choose to proceed, you will purchase the system and we will setup your next appointment which would be the first installation and blending haircut.  From there, you will be in the salon every 3-4 weeks for a removal/re-install service until it is time to replace the Hairskeen System.

Blonde Hair Maintenance | Tips from a Stylist

Working behind the chair as a stylist, I’ve learned many people do not know how to care for their blonde hair. In this blog I’m going to go over all the details on how to take care of your locks so that you have long lasting, beautiful blonde hair.

Haircare & Products

 

Let’s be honest, lightening your hair means you need to take care of it. Here are my go to product recommendations to keep your color looking better, but also maintaining the best health of your hair.

Purple Shampoo & Conditioner

Every blonde needs purple shampoo/conditioner. Using the right purple shampoo will keep your blonde vibrant and from turning yellow. However, overdoing it can either dull your blonde or turn it purple.

 

A good rule to follow would be to use it every other time you shampoo. My go to purple shampoo and conditioner is the Artego Shiny Silver shampoo and Blueberry mask. It refreshes blonde hair to the perfect color! Don’t worry, it’s not too purple or ashy!

Color Safe & Moisturizing Shampoo

A lot of shampoos still have sulfates and other things that can strip your color and keep it from lasting as long. It’s so so important to invest in your hair and use quality products for your own specific needs. Some blondes need moisture, some need repair to help strengthen your hair.

 

My best advice is to ask your stylist to recommend a sulfate free shampoo that suits your personal haircare needs. One of my favorites for blondes is the Alterna Caviar Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner. It’s great!

The Perfect Brush: Framar Detangling Brush

It’s so important to use a soft bristle brush no matter the color of your hair. However, the Framar Detangling brush has flexible bristles that don’t tug on your hair which in turn prevents breakage. I personally don’t use any other brush!

 

Stylist tip: is to apply a deep conditioning treatment and brush it through using your wet brush. Makes for soft, tangle free hair.

Pool Time

Pools typically have harsh chemicals that can dry your hair out and turn it green. To prevent both of those happening, apply a leave in conditioner on dry hair to protect it or simply secure your hair in a loose braid or top knot. My go to product cocktail for the pool is the Alterna Caviar Bond Repair leave in conditioner paired with the Anti Frizz Nourishing oil.

Styling Without Damage

When styling it’s so important to use a heat protectant and low heat. Remember: you’re blonde now, so you have to take care of your hair.

A good temperature to use your hot tools, like your flat iron or curling iron/wand, is 300-350 degrees. Any higher and you’re basically cooking your hair.

 

Another tip is to find a heat protectant that covers more than the temperature of heat you will be using. A really great one with everything I mentioned is the Alterna Caviar Bond Repair heat protectant.

 

Think of it like this: you wouldn’t grab a hot pan out of the stove without a glove. A heat protectant is a layer of protection on your strands when you use a hot blow dryer, flat iron, curling iron or wand.

Consistency is key!

It’s so important to be consistent with a stylist to work towards a hair goal. Good hair doesn’t happen in one appointment, it takes time and a plan.

 

Trying to achieve a major transformation in one appointment is unrealistic, and it really can damage your hair. Staying consistent with one stylist will help you reach your hair goals.

Have Realistic Expectations

Let‘s talk about changing your hair and the expectations to have when doing so:

 

You can most definitely make changes, however going from blonde to brown and back to blonde every other appointment is damaging to your hair.

 

Think of it like this: you only have one head of hair, and going back and forth between colors affects the integrity of your hair. When it comes to expectations of being blonde you have to be okay with the phases of doing so.

 

Big hair changes happen over time and multiple appointments. There will definitely experience warm phases from dark brunette to a pale light blonde. Patience, sticking to a stylist, and trusting the process is the key!

Color Trends

Icy blonde | Cool toned blondes are still in

If your goal is to have an icy blonde with no “yellow,” most people will need more than one process to remove all of the warmth in your hair. There’s two ways to achieve an icy blonde:

  • Low Processing & Slow Results – This is the ideal way to maintain the health of your hair. Set a goal color, and I will help you with a timeline. We can plan slowly lightening your hair in segments so we maintain a healthy blonde.
  • One Visit + Multiple Processes – If you are looking to achieve a major color change in one day, we need enough time for it. To do a major change in one visit, I can book multiple processes back to back for you so we can make it happen. For example, the blonde pictured above needed 3 back to back services, which came with a hefty price tag, but she wanted icy blonde in one day.

Bronde | For the Blondeish Brownish kind of girl

Bronde is personally my favorite color trend. It’s the perfect mix between blonde and brown.

This color is perfect for those who are currently blonde or brunette and are needing a change.

How to achieve: Book a “Balayage Partial” appointment and we can discuss what it would take to get to your future “bronde” color.

Lived In Balayage | The Best of Both Worlds

Lived in balayage isn’t necessarily a certain color, it’s customized to each person to add brightness 1-3 shades within your color and only needs to be touched up every so often.

How to achieve: Book a “Balayage Full” appointment so we have more time to balayage, and/or add a root color to customize a “lived in” look for you.
