Being a top hair stylist in Dallas requires that I  stay current with trends and continuously master my craft. Each year I do what I can to educate myself, further my knowledge, and perfect my skills. I recently took a trip to Chicago for the Aquage Master Class Academy to do just that. Surrounded by educators from all parts of the industry with tons of awards, and accolades, I left feeling newly inspired about my passion, which just so happens to be my career.

Luis Alvarez is the host of the two day (18+ hours) academy. Luis is VP of Creative & Education and cofounder of Aquage. He was named one of the Top 75 Educators of the century and one of the Top 50 Most Influential Hairdressers by Modern Salon. Not to mention being honored by Intercoiffure with the Knight of the Ordre de la Chevalerie in Paris. These two are just the tip of the staff, all of which have awards recognizable throughout the industry.

The instructors names are some of the whos who in our field. Ann Bray, for instance, is the United States ultimate master of hair styling and finishing. She is a long hair NAHA award winner and winner of Intercoiffures Createur de Mode award. NAHA, for anyone outside of the industry, is basically the Golden Globes of hair styling.

Upon arrival, I felt the energy of Chicago as anyone who has ever visited or lived there knows about. We focused on new hair cutting techniques that create versatile options for the client. A lot of clients I see for the firs time have complaints of being stuck with their current hair style. This class highlighted ways to cut and blend while giving the client the most time without needing to come back in for a hair cut because it was being unruly. It also focused on ways to allow a person to change their parts, do different styles, wear it curly or straight, all while the style maintained its perfection.

As for hair styling, we focused on building texture, and giving the hair enough pliant strength to maintain its style. Not only did we do avant garde styles, we did every day styles that clients would wear on a daily basis. We perfected new curling techniques that will set you apart from everyone else, all while maintaining current trends.

As I said earlier, I left this class feeling inspired to do more for my clients, and to do better on a daily basis. It is things like this that keep me going and set the standard for my clients. I refuse to be the hair stylist that I seem to hear about from new clients. The one who doesnt listen, or who is doing the same thing since 20 years ago. I strive to offer the best, do the best, and give my clients the best results for what they are looking for, with respect to the integrity of their hair, and up to date with current trends.

Being a Dallas Hair Extension Salon that gives our clients the best results, and keeps our stylists current means we have to set new standards. The Beauty Box Salon is already known for our gorgeous hair extensions, but we are beginning a new era of raising the bar for Dallas Salons. Recently, we produced an editorial photo shoot with a wedding theme: from the first date, to the proposal, all the way to the wedding. Instead of giving run of the mill recycled look we took it up a notch. While the looks are a bit more daring for a traditional wedding, they are inspired by every-day looks amplified tenfold.

The shoot was produced in its entirety by the amazing crew at The Beauty Box Salon. For this look in particular we worked with Vintage Martini, a fantastic consignment store focusing on looks from the 1800s to the 1950s. Dallas photogropher, Jessica Grammon did an amazing job capturing our model, Jennifer Brown. Rosa Marrufo did the makeup, and the big up do hair style is done by Brad Bykkonen and myself.

As for the hair style itself, to begin we started with adding 16 panels of Easilengths gorgeous hair extensions. We did four French braids that met at the crown of her head in 4 ponytails. As you can see from there we tamed the curled explosion into a beautiful mix of controlled chaos. The end result, as you can see from the professional photo is a sleek transition into huge voluminous curls. This look perfectly represents what a Dallas fashionista would wear the night the man of her dreams popped the question.

Things like this are what keep the inspiration that got me into this industry still fresh and hungry for more. Creating a new standard for hair dressing at the local level is what I strive to with my career. Stay tuned for more photos from this photo shoot, including the other looks, and our next venture into editorial hair dressing. This little salon nestled in the middle of Dallas Uptown and Highland Park has some amazing tricks up our sleeves and we can not wait to share them with the world!

Brandon Stephens

As a top hair stylist in Dallas, I had to be a part of the premier party to celebrate the premier of Big Rich Texas on the Style network at Hotel Zaza.  The second season premiered, and the ladies of the show came out to celebrate in style.

The night was full of good energy as great nibbles and cocktails were served. We ran into Dallas socialite, and Fashionista Heidi Dillon. She is anxious about her debut on the show, and we can not wait! She is the ideal Dallas socialite, and style icon.

The rest of the castmates were just as fabulous, and as gorgeous as could be. Sonia and I mingled with them in the VIP area, and could not have had a better time. These ladies are a ton of fun, and surely know how to party!

DeAynni is as petite as she looks on the show, but she is a fireball of energy. Love it! Pam was looking fantastic with her bodyguard nearby, and a bottle of Seven water in her arms. She apparently has a deal with Seven, which is a high-end bottled water looking to oust the veteran Voss. She was as nice as could be, and certainly knows how to work a room! We were pretty close to Cynthia all night, but only had a brief chance to mingle with her.

The ladies are all gorgeous and certainly live up to the title of the show! We had a fantastic time, and are looking forward to keeping up with season two of Big Rich Texas on the Style network on Sundays at 9/8 central

Balmain Hair Extensions are veterans to the industry. Balmain Hair has been a supplier of extensions and hair care since 1975. The famous Balmain fashion house stands for a unique concept of elegance and style. All hair from Balmain is 100% human, remy hair that is offered in several lengths and textures.   Here is some information on the fusion strand method I offer in the salon:

How they Work

Using a bond that is vegetable oil based, these strands are individually softened and wrapped around your own hair to create a beautiful and natural addition of volume or length.   When the bond cools, it seals itself for a wearing period of around 4-5 months.  Fusion strands are ideal for someone with a lifestyle that requires versatile hair.  Since these are individually applied, putting your hair up in a pony tail or vigorous athletics are never an issue.

Balmain is notorious for consistency and the quality of hair in these hair extensions is much the same.  They are offered in 12″, 16″ and 22″ in length with textures of straight, natural straight, wavy, and curly.   This is ideal for someone with naturally wavy, or even kinky curly hair.

How Long Do They Last?

Balmain strands are adhered to your hair for up to 4-5 months.  Around the 4 month mark it becomes time to remove and replace the hair.

Maintenance:

After having the extensions applied, every 6 weeks you will need to come in to the salon for a tidy cut. We will shampoo, blow-dry your hair and make sure there is no tangling and remove any natural shedding to prevent tangling. I will also trip any hair that has naturally shed, to keep from having the bonds tangle.

Every day at home you will need to take a minute or two to just make sure the bonds are separated. You will also need to regularly brush the bonds to make sure your new hair growth remains tangle-free.

How Long Does it Take to Put them In?

Application for volume generally takes 2 hours. For full length, anywhere from 3-4 hours.

Do they cause damage to your own hair?

When put on the right client, and they are maintained properly there should be absolutely no damage. This is where the importance of a hair extension consultation comes into play.

How much do they cost?
