Hair Conditioning Treatments

Regular hair conditioning treatments can help rejuvenate your hair and maintain a lustrous shine. Not only do these treatments help provide shine and elasticity, but they also protect your hair from environmental factors such as sun exposure. Today’s article will explain the main benefits of doing hair conditioning treatments on a regular basis and provide tips on how to take care of your hair.

Enhanced Moisture and Hydration

Environmental factors such as excessive heat, cold, humidity, and chemical hair treatments can strip your hair of its natural moisture. By leaving the hair exposed to these elements without treating it, over time the hair becomes dry, brittle, and frizzy.

Hair conditioning treatments such as conditioning masks, leave-in conditioners, or hair oil gives each hair shaft the hydration it needs to promote a smooth and silky texture. By regularly using these hair conditioning treatments (especially if you like to style your hair), your hair will eventually look and feel softer than ever.

Improved Hair Strength and Elasticity

Damaged hair loses its natural elasticity, making it even more susceptible to breakage and split ends over time. Hair conditioning treatments play a major role in strengthening the hair shaft by nourishing it with essential vitamins and minerals that help repair and strengthen damaged strands.

Look for ingredients such as keratin and collagen when choosing a hair conditioning product because they can do wonders at fortifying your hair. With increased strength and elasticity, your hair becomes resilient and resistant to damage, resulting in a healthier, more voluminous appearance.

Reduced Frizz and More Manageability

We all have had a bad hair day a time or two, but if you’re feeling like your hair has become more unruly than not, using a hair conditioning treatment will help. Manageable hair is easier to obtain when you incorporate regular hair conditioning treatments into your daily hair care routine. Conditioning products deeply moisturize and nourish your hair, smoothing the hair cuticle and making hair styling easier. Say goodbye to frizzy, tangled hair and hello to smooth, silky hair by doing regular hair conditioning treatments.

Protection against Environmental Damage

Exposure to the elements such as pollution and UV rays can cause our hair to turn dry, brittle, and more susceptible to split ends. Thankfully, hair conditioning treatments can reverse some of this damage, protect hair from future damage, and even prolong the vibrancy of color treated hair. Take care of your hair and use products such as leave-in conditioners to help fortify its natural defense mechanisms to keep it as healthy as possible.

Restored Hair Vitality and Shine

Over time, damaged hair lacks its natural shine, making it appear dull and lifeless. Regular hair conditioning treatments can help revive your hair and restore its silky appearance because they nourish the hair from within. From root to tip, damaged strands will get moisturized and boost your hair’s overall vibrancy when you consistently use hair conditioning products.

Tips for Taking Care of your Hair After a Hair Conditioning Treatment

One of the best ways to ensure your hair stays healthy is to avoid washing it for at least 24 hours after a hair conditioning treatment. This will allow the conditioning product to penetrate fully and nourish your hair. Additionally, try to avoid using any heat styling tools such as flat irons or blow dryers for a few days after the treatment.

It’s important to continue taking care of your hair to maintain its new, healthy state. Use a wide-toothed comb to gently detangle wet hair, rather than a brush which can cause breakage. Additionally, using a leave-in conditioner or hair oil can help to keep your hair moisturized and nourished in between treatments.

Remember, hair conditioning treatments are only one part of a hair care routine, and ongoing maintenance is key to keeping your locks looking their best. Ultimately, regular hair conditioning treatments can do wonders for your hair by healing damage brought on by overly heated styling tools and environmental factors in a safe and affordable way.

Remember to use conditioners specifically designed for your hair type and opt for products that include natural ingredients. Whenever possible, look for sulfate free shampoo and deep conditioning treatments to help nourish your hair. Hair Wave Perms

Do you want to change your hairstyle and want something long-lasting? A hair wave perm could be exactly what you’re looking for. Hair wave perms provide added texture and volume allowing you to experiment with curls. In today’s post, we will explore the types of hair wave perms and how to care for them properly.

Overview of Different Hair Wave Perms

Changing up your hairstyle can be a great way to refresh your look and make a bold statement, and hair wave perms are more customizable than ever before. From spiral perms to body wave perms and everything in between, there are plenty of options to explore. Each perm style offers unique benefits in terms of texture, volume, and manageability.

For example, beach wave perms create loose, tousled waves that are perfect for a carefree, bohemian look. If you are looking for a tighter, more defined curl, go for the spiral wave perm. Our hair wave perm stylists are here to help you choose the right wave perm for you.

Types of Hair Wave Perms – Spiral, Body, and Root Wave

If you’re looking to add some texture and bounce to your hair without having to curl it every day, you should consider getting a perm. A great way to add some volume and texture to your hair is by getting a perm. While there are many types of perms out there, spiral, body, and root wave perms are some of the most popular ones.

Spiral: feature tight, uniform curls that are perfect for adding bounce and definition to long hair.

Body: are looser waves and have a more natural-looking texture overall.

Root: add volume to the roots, providing a bit of lift to the hair.

Preparing for a Hair Wave Perm

Before booking an appointment for a hair wave perm, find pictures of different types of waves to get an idea of what you want. Consult with your stylist about the look you’re going for and discuss any concerns you may have. On the day of your appointment, wash your hair thoroughly and avoid using any hair products. Your stylist will likely apply a protective solution to your hair before the wave solution, so block out sufficient time in your schedule. By following these tips, you will set yourself up for success to get a long-lasting hair wave perm.

The Process of a Hair Wave Perm – Chemical Treatments, Heat Treatments, and Styling

If you want curly hair that lasts, a hair wave perm is just what you’ve needed. This chemical treatment works by breaking down the structural bonds of your hair, allowing them to reform into a new shape. Typically, the process involves applying a solution to your hair and then wrapping sections of your hair around perm rods.

Once your hair has processed, a stylist rinses, sets it in a neutralizer, washes the hair, and styles it for you. Getting a hair wave perm is time-consuming but it gives you a fun and flirty look that can last for months.

After Care for Your Hair Wave Perm – Deep Conditioning and Trimming Tips

Caring for your hair wave perm is essential to maintaining those bouncy, voluminous curls. One of the best ways to take care of your perm is through deep conditioning, which rehydrates your hair and restores any damage caused by the chemical treatment. Make sure to have your hair trimmed regularly after your perm to prevent split ends from damaging the wave pattern.

Pros and Cons of Getting a Hair Wave Perm

As with anything in life, getting a hair wave perm has its pros and cons. Here are some of the things to consider before committing to a hair wave perm:

Pros

  • Your hair will have more volume and body
  • A hair wave perm gives you a low-maintenance hairstyle for months
  • It gives your hair more definition and added texture

Cons

  • Getting a perm can cause damage to your natural hair
  • You have to care for your hair to keep the perm looking great
  • There is a significant time commitment required for a hair wave perm appointment

In conclusion, there are several different types of hair wave perms available, so choosing the best one for you depends on your desired look. Bigger Better Hair | Tape in Hair Extensions | How To Maintain in Tape Extensions

Congrats on your new hair extensions! Adding more hair can take some time to get used to.  In this post I am going to go into depth on how to maintain tape hair extensions so they always look amazing, and last you as long as possible.

I highly encourage that you invest fully in your hair and purchase each tool I will mention. Depending on your hair, some of these product recommendations may change, but these are my “go-to” recommendations for how to maintain tape extensions!

PRODUCT MUST HAVES

#1 Framar Wet Brush

Tape in Hair Extensions | How To Maintain in Tape Extensions

Framar Wet Brushes are an extension wearer’s best friend. Unlike any other brush, their bristles are much more flexible and are designed to not pull as hard on your hair which prevents breakage.

When using your Framar wet brush, don’t be afraid to brush thoroughly. I’m talking right over the panels of your extensions, because the bristles are so flexible there’s no way they can tear your hair out.

Brushing Your Hair Extensions : Tips and Tricks:

  • Start by brushing your ends first and working your way to the top. This will ensure that no breakage occurs, and you are not rough detangling your hair.
  • When using your wet brush, don’t be afraid to brush thoroughly. I’m talking right over the panels of your extensions, because the bristles are so flexible there’s no way they can pull your hair extensions out.
  • One of the most common mistakes we see is someone not brushing enough, and we have to detangle 6-8 weeks of not brushing at your maintenance appointments. Trust me: don’t be afraid to brush!

#2. Arrojo Gentle Shampoo and Conditioner

Let’s talk shampoo and conditioner. At Bigger Better Hair we have a luxury product line called Arrojo. Any of their shampoo and conditioners are extension friendly, and they are hands down the best shampoo and conditioner for extensions.

Tape in Hair Extensions | How To Maintain in Tape Extensions

The entire line is free of sulfates, parabens, and harsh chemicals. They also contain skincare grade ingredients and are clinically proven to improve your hair quality.

Washing Your Hair Extensions : Tips & Tricks

  • Your tape extensions should not slip out, as they are held together with medical grade tape. If they start to slip, there’s a reason. One of the biggest causes of slippage is oil or conditioner has touched the tape. To prevent this, don’t wait too long in between shampoos, as this creates build up of your natural oils which in turns causes slipping.
  • Also, make sure you don’t condition your hair near the wefts, or apply any sort of shine, conditioning, or smoothing product near your roots. You should only be applying your conditioner and leave in from mid lengths to your ends. In other words, no higher than where you can put your hair in a pony.
  • When shampooing, don’t be afraid to get in there and scrub between your extensions. Personally, I will take a dime size amount of shampoo, emulsify it in my hands, and shampoo in between each panel. If you don’t do this, you risk oil building up which can cause your extensions to slip.
  • Last but not least, make sure you are thoroughly rinsing all your shampoo/conditioner out. Think of when you are rinsing a dish in the sink, you rinse until the water runs clear. Same thing with your extensions. Rinse completely to avoid product build up, as it can make your hair feel waxy if you do not.

#3. Leave in Conditioner & Treatment Oil

It is very important to apply a leave in conditioner on damp hair after shampooing your hair. This will protect your hair and keep it moisturized between washes. There are a variety of leave in conditioners for each hair type.

Tape in Hair Extensions | How To Maintain in Tape Extensions

My personal favorite leave in cocktail for frizzy hair, is the Living Proof Restore Perfecting Spray paired with the Arrojo Shine Lux Oil. They both offer thermal protection and frizz-free hair for up to 72 hours.

Applying a generous amount of oil to the ends of your hair to keep the extensions soft, moisturized, frizz free. As a bonus, this also offers thermal protection up to 450 degrees.

Styling Products : Tips and Tricks:

  • Make sure you only apply leave in conditioner ponytail down. As mentioned above, if you put it any higher, it will cause slippage.
  •  For the best results I recommend applying oil and a leave in on damp hair ponytail down
  • After styling you can also apply a pea size of oil to your ends to make it shiny and keep it frizz free. Or you can use a dry oil spray which makes sure you never over do it.
  • In between shampoos, you can apply a few drops of oil to your ends to keep it fresh and break down any product build up.

Common Questions:

How should I wear my hair when sleeping?

I recommend brushing it out and securing it in a low pony or loose side braid. This will prevent it from tangling and will keep it contained.

How often should I be shampooing my hair?

This varies from person to person. Someone with very oily hair will need to wash more often than someone who does not get oily as fast. A good way to tell if it’s time to wash is when your hair starts to lack volume and is starting to get oily. You should at least be washing it at least 1-2 times a week.

Can I put my hair up with extensions?

Yes indeed. You may have to do some detailing with a brush to hide the tapes. For this I recommend using the Spornette Little Wonder Brush. Its bristles work great for smoothing the hair.

Can I workout with my extensions?

Yes, just make sure you secure it back in a low pony or braid. If you workout everyday, instead of shampooing every day, try rinsing thoroughly and applying conditioner to the ends every other shampoo.

Are tape extensions human hair?

100%. This means you can pretty much do anything with them that you can with your regular hair.

How much are Tape In Extensions?

The best way to gauge the cost, is to come in for a complimentary consultation so that a stylist can recommend which of our services will work best for you. For a general idea of our services, our price menu lists all of our services and pricing.

How long does the hair last?

Each new set lasts anywhere from 6 months to a year depending on how well you take care of your hair.

How often do I need to get them moved up?

Any salon extension needs maintenance every 6-8 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows, your stylist will recommend coming in at 6 weeks the first time and from there you can decide if 6 weeks works, or if you could go 7 or 8.

What if one of my tapes slips out?

In the case that this happens, feel free to reach out to the salon and ask for a quick fix. You can pretty much get in same day and it takes less than 15 minutes.

That’s It!

Now that you know exactly how to take care of your extensions, have fun with them! If you have any other questions or think I missed something, feel free to let me know. And if you’re in the DFW area, and want beautiful hair, come see me at Bigger Better Hair! I would love to make your hair dreams come true!

Dallas hair extensions

Something huge has happened in the last year with regards to hair color.  Olaplex is a revolutionary product that, when added to hair color, bleach, smoothing treatments, and even perms, improves the hair quality while processing.  Yep, you read that right:  it improves your hair quality when used with chemicals.  We are proud to be an Olaplex Salon in Dallas.

How It Works

This may get too technical, but we hope this makes sense so you understand.  Normally, your hair is colored, highlighted, smoothing treatment, or permed, it breaks down the Disulfide bonds inside your hair strands.  This is why we get split ends, and have to be cautious when coloring hair because the risk of damage is always there.

Olaplex is a bond multiplier containing a single active ingredient, Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate. Olaplex works by finding single sulfur hydrogen bonds and cross linking them back together to form disulfide bonds before, during and after services. This means it actually strengthens your hair while you color it, or use any chemical treatment.

Olaplex is the only product of its kind with 8 worldwide patents publishing soon. Olaplex is free of silicone, sulfates, phthalates, DEA, aldehydes, and is never tested on animals.

Olaplex How

In Salon Usage – Step 1 & 2

Olaplex is an additive that can be added to hair color, bleach, high lift color, gloss, toners, chemical relaxers, perms, keratin treatments, and smoothing treatments.  When used in conjunction with salon chemicals, it strenghtens your hair and decreases the chances of breakage significantly.

Olaplex is a 3 part system that helps rebuild bonds.  Step 1 is added to your chemical service in salon.  Step 2 is a conditioning treatment added in the shampoo bowl at the salon.  Step 3 is an at home treatment you use to maintain the health and condition of your hair.

At Home Treatment – Step 3

The No.3 Bond Perfector is designed for at-home use.  It is best to apply to clean, towel-dried hair.

  1. After you shampoo your hair, gently towel dry so it is not soaking wet.
  2. Apply a generous amount of the No.3 Bond Perfector to towel-dried hair and comb/brush for even distribution.
  3. Leave on for a minimum of 10 minutes. Keep in mind, the longer it’s on, the more effective it is.  Pro tip: We recommend sleeping with it in, and re-washing your hair the following morning.
  4. Rinse, shampoo and condition using your normal conditioning regimine.

This is NOT a conditioning treatment OR a leave-in treatment. It is meant to be shampooed out of the hair.   We recommend following this routine at least once a week.  For seriously damaged hair, 2-3 times a week may be necessary.

Dallas hair extensions

Dallas hair extensions

Nioxin hair products in Dallas are revolutionary in their scalp balancing and restorative hair abilities.  Here is a simple look into why we love Nioxin hair products and recommend them to clients.  Even though Nioxin is a very familiar name to many people, we have found many clients who have been incorrectly using the products and/or not using the correct system for their hair and needs.

What are Nioxin hair products?

Nioxin uses advanced technologies to balance scalp issues, and/or deliver fuller, denser-looking hair. In 1987, the founder of these products was experiencing thinning hair after the birth of her first child, and began researching treating the scalp with skincare methods.

Why we love Nioxin Hair products

This offers a very customized line of hair products that specifically target people with overly oily, or dry scalp issues.  Also, they offer several custom products for the more than 50% of people worldwide who experience thinning hair.

1.)   They offer several “3 System Kits” – Inluding Cleanser, Scalp Treatment and Scalp Revitalizer.  Each is tailored by hair type and specific scalp trouble to deliver a healthy scalp and/or denser-looking hair.

2.)   Even if you have no scalp issues, the Nioxin cleansers are a fantastic cleansing shampoo that is color safe, and great for every hair type.

3.)   The Diaboost styling product has a “Thickening Xtrafusion Treatment,” scientifically designed and tested to increase the thickness of each of your existing hair strands which gives fuller looking hair.

4.) Nioxin believes in their products so much, they offer a 30 day guarantee when you buy them in a network salon.  If within 30 days you use the entire kit, send it back to them for a full refund.

If you are looking for a vivid or pastel hair color, our go-to color product that we use is Joico K-Pak Color Intensity tones.  The Joico K-Pak Color Intensity range offers the most potent, bright, and vivid hair colors for those who are looking for extra bold pop of color.  This is an in-depth look at why we use Joico Color Intensity vivid and pastel hair colors in our Dallas hair color salon.

Color Intensity

Why Joico?

  • The Joico K-Pak Color Intensity collection has over 20 intermixable shades, with the option of mixing and blending for custom colors.
  • These intensely concentrated pigments deliver over-the-top vibrancy that lasts through 15 shampoos. Pro Tip: We recommend a customized product cocktail for maintaining these hair colors to ensure your color stays bright and true to tone for as long as possible.
  • Packed with award-winning K-PAK’s powerful Quadramine Complex® for guaranteed healthier hair after every color service.
  • Ultra nourishing Kukui Nut Oil leaves hair gorgeously conditioned and amps up shine.

How much is a Vivid hair color?

Usually an additional $25 color charge is added to the hair color service you need to achieve your desired result.   This is because these colors are mixed differently and we use much more product than a traditional hair color service.   A color consultation is recommended for fashion hair color services.
