Hot red hair in Dallas is always in! Sometimes natural colors just dont fit with your style. Check out my client who wanted fire engine red hair! Much like Rihanna, she wanted to make a statement with her hair color. Dallas is a city where you have to make a statement to be seen. She definitely makes a statement when she enters a room with her Red hair color in Dallas!

As a hair color specialist, I often recommend adding in a few natural highlights in Dallas to give you the best looking natural hair color.  I believe doing at least a few highlights gives your hair color extra richness and customization that sets it apart from a solid color.

Having highlights doesn’t necessarily mean they need to be platinum blonde.  Sometimes just doing a few shades lighter than your all over color makes all the difference in giving you dimension and a customized hair color that best suits your palette.

The newly crowned 2011 Miss America, Teresa Scanlan, wears a wig on a daily basis. Noticing that her hair was too damaged to maintain the heat from styling it on a daily basis, she decided to seek alternate options. After cutting her hair to a short style, she committed to wearing a wig every day to allow it to regain its integrity.

2010 has come and gone, and as we all set our 2011 new year’s resolutions, why not set aside a bullet point to think about your “New Hair Solutions.” We all get our hair cut, and most of us get our hair colored, so it’s important to start off the year putting our best foot forward to look our best!

First, and foremost, let’s talk about loyalty. I, myself, learned this lesson the hard way firsthand. When I couldn’t get in to my normal hairdresser, I took the risk because I “needed” it that day. (Or, so I thought!) I went to someone new and got the worst haircut of my life. It was then and there that I declared, “I will always go to the same person hereafter!” When you find a hair stylist who speaks your language, and does a great job, don’t take the risk of reversing the progress.

Second, let’s each assess our style. Am I rocking the same style I was back when I graduated high school? Does it make me look as good as I possibly can? These are questions we should all be asking ourselves, and our hairdressers. It’s way too easy to get stuck in a moment, and we look back 10 years later and have the same do. Or, in this case, a don’t!

Now, let’s take a good look at the shampoo/conditioner in our shower. We can’t possibly expect our hair to look as good as it should, or our color to last as long as it should if we’re using Pantene, or Suave products! Furthermore, if we wonder why our hair was flat in 2010 let’s take a look at our styling products. This year lets take a chance on what our stylist recommends.

Last, but not least, let’s start off this year by taking the necessary steps towards fulfilling our New Years resolutions. Instead of creating a list of things to do each year, let’s make 2011 the year of accomplishment.

Natural hair styles in Dallas are often the hardest to achieve.  Want to know what separates the good and bad? The use of products. Which product best suits you, how much you use, and when you use it are crucial to any hair style. 2010 is proving to be the year that many girls are setting their flat irons aside. Having locks with body and a little curl is an easy, flirtatious way to glam up your look with ease.

First and foremost, let’s talk about products. Almost everyone needs to be using some kind of product to assist with their style. If you haven’t already heard about Moroccan Oil, it’s the perfect way to tame frizz, while adding the moisture your hair needs, and protecting it from all of the hot tools we use on a daily basis. (Blow dryers, flat irons, curling irons, hot rollers, etc.) Also, some kind of mousse, gel, or hair lotion will always help lock in the style you’re trying to achieve. You never want to use too much, as we don’t want this to look forced. A good tip is to always start small, and if you feel like you need more you can continuously add until the hair is saturated.

If you’re looking to have really tamed hair with a slight curl at the end, showing off your gorgeous long layers, a round brush will be your best friend. I suggest you use a dime size amount of Moroccan Oil, and a little bit of mousse to hold your style. When your hair gets almost completely dry but still has a little moisture in it, start round brushing your hair. It helps to clip your hair up and isolate each section you’re drying. When you’re drying your hair with the round brush, brush the hair straight up – perpendicular – to your head while turning the brush away from your face.

To lock your style, use a light hairspray that doesn’t make the hair look stiff, and allows it to still have movement. A great hairspray that supports this look is the Aquage Finishing Spray. You can also use this hairspray to tame flyaways. Holding the hairspray about 10 inches from your hair, lightly spray it and use a boars bristle brush to lock those loose locks into place.

Lately have noticed something that needs to be discussed: Plucking your gray hairs from your head. No ma’am, this is a big no-no! Let’s break this down.

When you pluck your eyebrows, do they grow back? Yes. So, if we pluck a single hair (which usually falls along where you part your hair, and is the most visible part of your head’s profile) is it going to grow back just like an eyebrow? Yes! Not only is it going to grow back, it’s going to grow back in it’s normal state: still gray!

At average, hair grows around .5 inch every month. So, after plucking that darn gray, you are setting yourself up for a whole other problem. In a month, that hair will then have grown a good half inch, which means one thing: It’s going to be standing straight up making its presence known to everyone who sees you. Hair, when short, does not have enough weight to follow suit with the rules of gravity. It will take several months of new growth to finally give that hair enough weight to fall back in line with the rest of your locks. In the mean time, you’re stuck with this stubborn hair that won’t lay down with the rest of your style.

Think about it…if you pluck one hair a week for a year, that’s 50 hairs all over the top of your head that are growing back at different rates, and you begin realizing that your hair is frizzy, and you can’t ever get those little hairs to stay down. There’s only one fix: stop plucking the grays, and just come in for a root touch up.

For someone looking for the best thin hair extensions in Dallas, I always recommend using a tape or fusion system.  This before and after picture shows my client who wanted a bit of length, but was mainly looking for more thickness and volume in her hair style.

Michelle did the full volume treatment of the tape in hair extensions for fine hair in Dallas. The two things that make tape hair extensions ideal for fine or thin hair are:

* Weight of panel – Each panel of tape is lightweight, but is adhered to more than enough of your own hair to support its weight.

* Removal – When the removal solution is applied to the panel, it very easily is removed from your hair unlike other hair extension systems.

With tape hair extensions, they are on a weft base which gives you more hair added with the use of fewer extensions.  With a strand by strand fusion method, you would require many more strands to achieve the same look as tape in hair extensions.

Everyone wants their hair to have more shine, and less frizz right?! In Dallas, the women definitely do! You have probably heard all the buzz about the latest and greatest product: Moroccan Oil. I hope you are ready because this product will change your life.

When you hear the word oil, in any hair product, you probably get nervous. I mean, who wants oily hair? First of all, if you have Biosilk in your cabinet, throw it out! This product is on a whole new level. Consider this:

Your hair NEEDS oil to maintain strength and a healthy shine. The more you shampoo, the more you are stripping your hair of natural oils. To replace them, you need to be using some kind of natural oil on a daily basis. Conditioners are not the answer to your every problem.

Moroccan oil is another name for Argan oil, which is made from the kernels of the Argan tree fruit that grow almost exclusively in Morocco. The oil is a rich emollient that can moisturize hair and skin. It is unlike any other oil treatment because the hair actually absorbs the natural Argan oil, instead of staying on the hair and making it feel oily like past products.

To use the product:

Shampoo and condition your hair as normal. After towel drying it, apply a quarter size amount of the oil to your hair. Always apply the product to the ends, which need the most attention due to hair coloring, and environmental factors. After you style your hair, you can apply a tiny amount more to add extra shine and really seal that cuticle from absorbing humidity. As is always the case with an oil based product: Steer clear of the scalp! This will further protect and give your hair more shine.

For curly hair: After you shampoo your hair, use a large pick to detangle your hair. Mix a gel/mousse with a dime size pump of Moroccan Oil. The combination of the sticky from the gel/mousse with the shine in the Moroccan Oil will lock in the curls, but soften the crispy nature of gel. Your end result is beautiful curls that are soft, and shiny!

Dry Shampoo and hair powders are making a comeback, and I love it!  Here is a list of my top 3 favorite best dry shampoo products in Dallas.  Each serves a different purpose, and I will explain why I love them.

Bumble Pret a Powder Dry Shampoo

1.  Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-powder

Equal Part Dry Shampoo and volumizer.  It not only absorbs oil, it adds a cleansing frangrance and adds light texture for volume at the root.   Easy to use, and an amazing tool that’s airline TSA friendly.

2. Bumble & Bumble Hair Powders

While these technically aren’t “dry shampoo” products, they are FANTASTIC at absorbing excessive oil.  They are also incredible root texturizers and regrowth camouflage.    Yep, the pigmented hair powders are great for hiding your gray in a pinch.  Tip: With the tinted hair powders, less is more.  Don’t over-use, as the pigment can be messy.

3.  Tigi Catwalk Session Series Dry Shampoo

Okay, so here’s the scoop:  This dry shampoo is extremely light on the powder, which some people prefer.  As a hair stylist, the more the better for me.  So why did this make the list?  It’s fragrance!   After a long night out, or sizzling fajitas we all know how hair just soaks up scents.  This fragrance is a show-stopper and lasts quite a while.

Dallas Wedding Hair is one of  the many things on a bride-to-be’s checklist.  Finding your wedding hair stylist in Dallas should be one of the top priorities. With you being photographed so extensively for the wedding, you really want to remember the day as one where you looked and felt your best. It’s a day to remember, and you certainly don’t want to remember it being a bad hair day!!

Dallas Wedding HairOnce you have found your dress, it’s important to get ideas for your hair on the big day. Start by checking out pictures, pinterest, and magazines, finding out a concept of what you’d like.

Do you want a chic, or a beachy/natural up-do? Do you want it half up and half down? Or do you want it all down showcasing your length with deep waves?

Figuring out what you want, in coordination with the dress’ style, and your personality are important first steps.

Second, it’s time to visit a hairstylist for a consultation on the style. You should never wait until the big day to have the style done, when there’s little time to change it. Having a consultation can get you and your stylist on the same page about the style. Then, doing a trial run will really give you a good idea of how the look will be in first person. At that point, you can either love it, or make any necessary changes to the concept.

Hair extensions can really transform your look for the wedding by adding length or volume you need. There are many affordable options to transform your hair for the wedding that you may not know of.  Check out my dallas hair extension guide for an in-depth look at hair extension options.
